MÜNZING, a leading manufacturer of specialty additives, has taken a decisive step in optimizing its processes with the introduction of APICON Data Master. In particular, the processes for creating finished products and raw materials in SAP have been significantly accelerated through the introduction of workflows and automation. The result: reduced process throughput times, greater transparency and noticeably improved data quality.

The challenge

Complex processes, long throughput times

Before the introduction of APICON Data Master, MÜNZING faced considerable challenges in the creation process for new finished products. The creation process was handled in Excel, which led to inefficiencies and media disruptions. It sometimes took more than twelve months from process start to material creation in SAP.

Another sticking point was the large number of departments involved - from product management and supply chain to purchasing, development, sales, production, regulatory affairs and controlling. The lack of an overview of the current status and unclear responsibilities caused delays. In addition, email-based communication and manual data entry in SAP made smooth collaboration difficult.

The solution

APICON Data Master as a game changer

Together with APICON, MÜNZING introduced the Data Master and thus laid the foundation for a workflow-based and automated process. Two workflows were developed for finished products in Europe:

• Collection of relevant information for product samples: this workflow ensures that all the data required to send a product sample to the customer is available.
• Generation of a saleable end product: A market-ready product is created based on the sample data.

In addition, a global workflow was implemented for the Americas, Europe and Asia in order to standardize the creation of new raw material articles in SAP.
